My Ideal Client

When I was a middle school math teacher, 50 billion years ago, and filling out report cards, there was usually a drop down menu for teachers to choose comments for each individual student.

Diligent worker.

Talkative/ disruptive. (You know who you are! Lol.)

Lacks participation in class.

Helpful and attentive.

Missing and/or late assignments.

But my favorite was: “A joy to teach.”

It didn’t matter if they excelled at math or it was their most challenging subject. Any child with the right attitude and work ethic could be a joy to teach.

Being a joy had less to do with ability, and has everything to do with being teachable.

Recently, I was asked to describe my ideal client- and the drop down menu for me remains the same. Please, be a joy to teach!

What does ‘a joy to teach’ look like in the studio?

A positive mindset. Come in ready to get stronger, more stable, and build stamina- and you will see results.

An open mind to new and different approaches to training.

Trust. Trust me. Trust the process. Patience!

Open communication. I’ll ask you a lot about your perceived effort and I’ll describe where you should feel your muscles working in a lift. It’s important that you can give me feedback to help me give you the best training.

Humor. I cannot say this enough. I love to chat and laugh. It makes the hour so much nicer if someone is willing to chat and laugh with me.

And to put your mind at ease, here are things you do NOT need in order to be a joy to teach.

You do not need to be a certain weight.

You do not need to be able to lift any certain amount.

You do not need to be able to run any specific distance.

You do not need to have a certain degree of flexibility.

You definitely do not need to be an AMRAP expert.  (Or even know what AMRAP means.)

I’ve worked with people during and after pregnancy, post surgery, and clients that have had injuries that have made exercise difficult their entire adult lives--from former athletes to those who've never been in a gym.

They are seeing results because they are willing to trust the process, work every time they walk in the door, and follow my guidance when they leave.

To be a joy, you just need to show up with a smile and a good attitude. I’ll handle the rest.
